Armor Up: Rock Sliders, Skid Plates & Bumpers

Trail damage usually happens in the same few spots — rocker panels, differentials, and bumpers — which is exactly what armor is built to protect. Prioritize the parts most likely to contact rock on your specific terrain.

  • Rock sliders protect rocker panels and double as a step for taller lifts.
  • Skid plates should cover the fuel tank, transfer case, and oil pan at minimum.
  • A rated front bumper adds recovery points and armor in one upgrade.

“Great points! Proper armor can make a huge difference on the trail. Rock sliders and skid plates are definitely worth considering before tackling tougher terrain. :flexed_biceps:

Absolutely! It's one of those things you don't really appreciate until you're out on the trail. A little protection upfront can save you from a pretty expensive repair later on.

I’m wondering what if you car is not equipped with these. Can they be retrofitted? Is an installer needed to do this work or is it a DIY?

Yep, most of these can be added later depending on the vehicle. Some are DIY-friendly, but for rock sliders and bumpers, I’d recommend professional installation. AutoMaximizer also has a list of installers you can check out if you need help with the install.
